The client had bought the house as an investment with the intention of renting it out to expatraites. The original terrance house is a very rare typology with disctinctive English townhouse influences. As such, we decided to keep the main building and extend the front and the rear to cater for modern day living. The front extension consists of a SOHO for easy access to visitors without intruding any further into the private spaces. The rear extension consists of the Wet and Dry Kicthen on the first storey and the Master Bedroon on the second storey. The decorative window grilles were recycled as railings for the balconies above. CMD Pte Ltd was responsible for the Interior Design.

The front extension off-form concrete and metal structure was expressed

Unblocked views extend throughout the whole length of the house

A skylight was used to illuminate the SOHO space

An open to sky courtyard was used to mitigate the original house and the rear extension

The original mosiac staircase was retained and used as the main vertical circulation

The ceiling was removed to give a high ceiling and express the original roof profile

The courtyard brought in sunlight and ventilation

The Master Bedroom was on the second level of the rear extension
